Post-Doctoral training is integral to our lab mission. We welcome applications to open positions through Stanford’s Post-Doctoral Affairs website, as well as through the Precourt’s Stanford Energy Postdoctoral Fellowship program and the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability’s Dean’s Sustainability Leaders Postdoctoral Fellowship. Scholars with strong alignment to the lab mission are welcome to reach out with inquiries about forthcoming openings. Please identify the specific areas of research alignment and reference active projects that would benefit from your existing skill-set.
Prof. Mauter admits 1-2 PhD students each year through the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering’s central pool of candidates. Prof. Mauter has also admitted and advised students through central applicant pools in Stanford’s Departments of Chemical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. Applications are due in early December. Please note that Prof. Mauter has limited bandwidth to meet individually with students before applications are submitted, but she reviews all applicants with stated interest in the WE3Lab, and she interviews 10-20 applicants per year during the admissions cycle. Please review active projects on our website and watch recent dissertation defenses to ensure alignment with the group’s active projects.
The WE3Lab is committed to engaging the next generation of water-energy system engineers in our research. Currently enrolled Stanford undergraduates and masters students are welcome to join our group meetings and should contact the lab’s PhD and Post-Doctoral scholars directly to inquire about research opportunities. Most long-term research engagements in our lab commence through one of Stanford’s Summer Undergraduate Research Programs (search MUIR, SUPER, SESUR, SERGE, and SURGE). We also encourage undergraduate engagement with the lab’s entrepreneurial activities through the Stanford Sustainability Accelerator’s EcoRAMP program.
Undergraduates from outside institutions are welcome to apply to relevant programs through Stanford and SLAC National Laboratory. We cannot accept unsolicited applications from external applicants.
We do not accept high-school student interns in our laboratory due to training requirements.
We occasionally host self-funded visiting researchers in an effort to spark new collaborations, broaden our group's expertise, and disseminate our research methods.
